Volunteering at REACT
the more hands the merrier

A large amount of the work we do is with volunteer hours, and we're always keen for more helpers.

Some jobs are based up here at REACT, others are more likely to happen in Palmerston North and some you could do from home!
It all depends on what you're interested in, and which of your skills you'd like to offer us.

Around the base in Rangiwahia:
Willow Harvest involves secateur work and usually takes place in July. There is normally one communal day of harvest around the Factory during the season, with other beds to harvest after that. Willow stripping happens 'when the Sap rises' during spring, usually October/ November gets the best results. Weeding help is appreciated all year round to keep the crops flourishing.
Bush restoration involves planting and maintaining trees, shrubs and grasses that are being used to restore green corridors between our 3 local reserves. Planting happens during autumn winter & early spring. Maintenance and weeding all year round.
Workshops and events - see wider brief below. We are also interested in hearing from people in the Wellington region for workshops & events based there.
Social Media/ Promotion As the worlds worst marketeers - we prefer our work to speak for itself - we would love some help from those with an interest in social media. We're very photogenic at events and an Instagrammer would be handy. Any other promotion help is also most welcome.
Governance As a registered charity there is lots to do behind the scenes to keep as functioning as an organisation. We would love to hear from people with skills in these areas, especially new members who'd like to support us by attending AGMs etc. Office support etc also very welcome.
From our end, we hope to make any volunteer time as enjoyable as possible -
communal lunch, tea and cakes, and convivial conversation as we work.
Workshop Crew Wanted

We are seeking volunteers who have an interest in creativity, the environment and who like people, to join us to be hands on in public workshops and at events.
Workshops are usually at weekends or during school holidays and within the Manawatu, mainly in Palmerston North.
Our Kaupapa relates to Kaitiakitanga, Aroha and Kotahitanga.
In workshops you would be helping participants achieve the set activity and keeping an eye out for tasks to be done. (refilling glue pots, tidying workspace as necessary etc).
At Events such as the Lantern Parade or Lit Night Bike Ride it's all hands on deck, helping carry centerpieces or supporting those that do.
All training would be provided, and you should learn some new skills along the way.
Anyone with an interest in Lighting would get experience with low power systems.
There is potential for this to become paid work on a casual part time basis.
